Yinson To Develop Largest Retail EV Charging Network In Malaysia Through AEON

Yinson Holdings Bhd along with the Aeon Group will look into developing Malaysia’s largest retail electric vehicle (EV) charging network. The agreement will see Yinson’s subsidiary Yinson GreenTech (YGT) provide charging infrastructure across AEON and AEON BiG shopping outlets across the nation.

Yinson group’s head of technology and new ventures, Eirik Barclay has said the company wants to help businesses accelerate the transition to net zero. “Today we mark another milestone in our efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change as we partner with one of Malaysia’s leading shopping malls, Aeon, which has developed a robust sustainability roadmap for its business.”

Under a memorandum of cooperation (MOC), YGT aims to deploy its chargEV chargers with value-added services, such as customer care and loyalty programmes. The services are introduced as part of the Aeon sustainability charter and are expected to enhance the overall efficiency of the group malls while benefiting its retail customers with EV charging services.

Aeon chief ventures and sustainability officer Azli Mohamed said the partnership with Yinson GreenTech was one of the examples that the company was operationalising sustainability by enabling sustainable commuting. He also went on to say that with 28 malls, 34 stores and 21 Aeon BiG outlets, this would make the company the first and largest retail EV charging network ecosystem in Malaysia.

“Aeon aims to lead the retail sector by enabling the ecosystem for sustainable commuting. "This will be done by future-proofing our malls to meet the needs of the surrounding community, enriching their retail experience while maintaining Aeon's responsibility towards the environment.”
