(KUALA LUMPUR) In a quest for immersive education, Virtualtech Frontier (VTF), a pioneering metaverse and immersive technology company, joins forces with MetaSkool, an innovative educational initiative redefining traditional teaching through metaverse integration, backed by the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).
As the expert in technology, VTF supplies essential tools, technology modules, and metaverse socialisation workshops for the MetaSkool programme. Collaborating as a strategic partner, the Faculty of Education at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) serves as a pedagogy specialist and conducts impact studies. The programme encompasses training sessions for teachers from pilot schools, metaverse socialisation workshops for students, framework development, module deployment, and creating virtual worlds for lesson plans and classroom simulations. With an initial target of training 500 students and selected school teachers during the pilot phase, MetaSkool plans to expand its reach later in 2024.
"As we venture into an era where the younger generation grows up immersed in mobile technology, it's crucial for education to foster a genuine passion for learning," stated Jason Low, CEO of Virtualtech Frontier. "At VTF, we are dedicated to enhancing the learning experience, particularly by leveraging the potential of virtual technology. We believe in reshaping education to meet the evolving needs of today's tech-savvy learners, promoting a dynamic and engaging approach to acquiring knowledge."
Ts. Mahadhir Aziz, CEO of MDEC, remarked, “MDEC is excited to collaborate with VTF and UKM, marking a significant step towards enhancing digital capabilities and equipping our talent with essential innovation skills. The MetaSkool initiative, launched just last year, perfectly aligns with the Malaysia Digital (MD) national strategic initiative and Malaysia Digital Catalytic Programmes (PeMangkinMD), highlighting our vision to position Malaysia as the digital hub of ASEAN. Through extensive learning opportunities for both educators and students, we are laying a robust foundation for our nation's future in the rapidly evolving digital economy. We are confident that this initiative will propel Malaysia to the forefront of digital innovation and creativity.”
The initial implementation of metaverse technology in educational settings has garnered positive feedback from students and teachers alike, indicating a growing interest in its potential applications within the learning environment. Numerous teachers have expressed a keen desire to delve deeper into the possibilities of the metaverse through future workshops, showcasing its potential to reshape educational practices.
The fusion of traditional teaching with technology in MetaSkool not only expands the digital frontier but also paves the way for a future where innovation seamlessly complements the essence of learning. This commitment actively bridges the gap between conventional teaching methods and the potential of the metaverse, offering a balanced approach that integrates traditional values with cutting-edge technology.
