Tan Chong's foray floating power plant reduces C02 emissions by 610 tonnes.

TC Sunenergy Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Tan Chong Group, proudly announced the commencement of operations of their Floating Large-Scale Solar Photovoltaic (LSSPV) plant in Serendah on January 5th, 2024. This significant project stems from the group's involvement in the 20-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) initiative, which was part of the Large Scale Solar Photovoltaic Plant (LSSPV) Bidding Cycle 4 (LSS@MEnTARI) by the Energy Commission of Malaysia in 2020.

TC Energy anticipates adopting this green energy supply will significantly reduce 610,221 tonnes of CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) emissions, equivalent to removing 132,656 cars from the road or planting 29,058,175 trees.

Situated on Sungai Rawang – Serendah Lake, adjacent to Tan Chong Motor Assemblies Sdn Bhd, the 20MW floating solar panel farm is poised to supply over 1,000,000 Megawatt Hours (MWh) of green energy to Tenaga National Berhad under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Originally set for 21 years, the PPA was granted a 4-year extension in 2022.

Notably, TC Energy utilised only 60% of the water surface for the solar farm to preserve the diversity of the local flora and fauna ecosystem while maintaining water quality. The project adheres strictly to the Environmental Management Plans guidelines of Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) and the Department of Environment (DOE).

Daniel Ho, Group Chief Executive Officer of TCMH, remarked, "TCS Floating LSSPV – Serendah represents a significant milestone as it marks the Group's inaugural foray into the renewable and sustainable energy sector. TCMH Group is delighted to contribute to environmental conservation for the benefit of future generations."
