Malaysia’s Digital Employment Platform - Troopers Secures RM4 Million From Series A Investment Round

Troopers Malaysia, an end-to-end digital HR solutions platform closed on a Series A funding of up to RM4 million (approx. US$950,000) from Shopper360 Sdn Bhd. Shopper360’s investment and strategic partnership will provide Troopers the leverage to effectively implement some of the company’s immediate business plans that are in the pipeline.



Troopers digital mobile platform enables the automation of gig matching and allows workers to choose where and when they want to work, and employers have access to a wide talent pool for all types of part-time / once-off gigs. The investment will be used for technology development, marketing and working capital to further expand its business In Malaysia.


Founded by Joshua Tan and Kelvin Lee in 2017, Troopers is revolutionizing the existing part-time recruitment culture and structure in Malaysia to create an eco-system that is reliable, efficient, and effective for their stakeholders to maximize their time, money, and resources. Troopers conducts all their recruitment, selection, talent management, pay roll and training via the app and have hired more than 100,000 headcounts over the past 4 years in a variety of roles and jobs across Malaysia.


Since the introduction of their mobile app in June 2021, it has generated more than 35,000 users and placed more than 20,000 jobs translating to RM1.2 million of income in just two months.


Gig workers who apply are filtered through the app and once they have been matched to a job position, they can use the same app to check-in for work, make relevant field reports, and get notified when salary payment has been made to them. Troopers are now driving the lead to ensure all part-time workers receives the same level of benefits and protection as a full-time employee.


Leveraging on the government’s funds to promote the gig economy, Troopers is capitalising on the ‘Penjana Gig Protection’ scheme and pioneering the effort in providing insurance coverage and protection to gig workers - such as delivery riders and vaccination centre volunteers through the Troopers Protect programme. This seamless experience emphasizes on providing gig workers and part-timers with social protection benefits, the ability to track their earnings in real-time, and have full control over how they get paid, gives Troopers a competitive edge compared to its local industry peers.
