With the Lunar New Year right around the corner, several brands are already reigning in the Year of the Tiger with unique capsules inspired by the majestic feline. From chic stripes to designs inspired by traditional Chinese art, there’s a little something for everyone looking to stand out this auspicious season.
Salvatore Ferragamo
To celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year, Salvatore Ferragamo has taken inspiration from traditional Chinese paintings for a special capsule that pays homage to their long history of uniting art and culture with fashion. Working in collaboration with artists Sun Yuan and Peng Yu, the collection includes items such as a silk scarf where the tiger takes centre stage, and monogrammed bag dipped in festive red.
Prada
Prada is making a difference this Lunar New Year with the launch of ‘Action in the Year of the Tiger’, a combined campaign and project dedicated to bringing awareness to the endangered species. Fronted by actors Li Yifeng and Chun Xia, the campaign is also calling for art students to produce their own interpretations of the tiger, with the selected design to be used in ongoing projects throughout the year.
Gucci
Unleash your inner beast with Gucci’s ready-to-wear collection, brimming with some serious tiger power. Spearheaded by creative director Alessandro Michele, the dedicated capsule features multicolour monograms, tigers brought to life in watercolour and the ‘Gucci Tiger’ wording over a myriad of apparel and accessory items.
Burberry
Burberry is embodying the confident spirit of the tiger this Lunar New Year with a new collection and campaign in celebration of the auspicious occasion. The exclusive capsule is presented in a series of fierce graphics that pay homage to the big cat’s strong, confident spirit. This reinterpretation sees the brand’s Lola and Olympia bags adorned in tiger stripes, the signature TB Monogram in honey beige with bright orange B motifs, and the Burberry Heritage Trench among other pieces.
Saint Laurent
Saint Laurent is breaking away from the traditional mould this Lunar New Year, choosing to opt-out of the usual red in favour of more earthy tones in reminiscence of the great wilderness. Taking cues from the feline’s natural home, the collection curates a series of ready-to-wear items from a cardigan fashioned in tiger print set against warm tones to the Niki Chain and Manhattan bag envisioned in classic monochromatic.
Balenciaga
In keeping with the fashion house’s otherworldly direction, Balenciaga has put its own personal spin on a conventional Lunar New Year collection. The tiger-themed capsule boasts t-shirts, sweaters, mini handbags, shoes and many more in orange and black dual tones. If you’re looking for something more on the wild side, oversized fleece jackets, long sleeves and socks featuring vibrant tiger stripes offered alongside the more muted pieces may be more your thing.
