Omakase-style dining experience, Eat and Cook has been honoured with the Asia’s 50 Best’s One To Watch Award, given to those who have been recognised as the rising stars of their region. The KL-based restaurant’s win is part of the coveted list’s pre-announced individual awards for Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2022 ceremony to take place in Bangkok on March 29th.

In lieu of the recognition, Chef Lee Zhe Xi spoke on behalf of his team, expressing what the award means to them. "It's a validation of the hard work we've put in over the last year and of our commitment to elevating Malaysian cuisine. This award will inspire us to continue our mission to bring the Malaysian dining experience to the next level."

Born out of vicissitude during the pandemic, chefs and co-founders Lee Zhe Xi and Soh Yong Zhi decided to turn a misfortune into an opportunity after losing their respective jobs as hotel chefs. The pair decided to pursue their passion project to create an omakase-style restaurant serving modern interpretations of classic Malaysian dishes. And so, Eat and Cook was born.

In keeping with the omakase tradition, Lee and Soh present ingredient-driven tasting menus that change daily according to the availability and quality of local produce.

"As the winner of the American Express One To Watch Award 2022, Eat and Cook is recognised for its refined cooking techniques, surprising combinations and creative execution. Its owners are creating a new identity for modern Malaysian cuisine," added William Drew, Director of Content for Asia's 50 Best Restaurants.

The Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2022 will be broadcast to a global audience via Asia's 50 Best Restaurants Facebook and the 50 Best Restaurants TV YouTube channel.
