AirAsia Group has been named among the world’s top 20 safest low-cost airlines for 2024. AirlineRatings.com, the world’s best one-stop airline safety and product rating review website, recently released its list of the top 25 safest airlines and 20 of the world’s safest low-cost airlines for 2024.

Topping the list for low-cost airlines was Australian-based airline Jetstar, and Air New Zealand took the top spot for safest airline, knocking off last year’s winner, Qantas.

Other notable low-cost airlines that made the list include Ryan Air, easyJet, Vietjet, Spirit and Southwest.

Commenting on the ratings, AirlineRatings.com’s editor-in-chief Geoffrey Thomas commended the efforts of all the airlines that made the list and added that competition for the top spots was fierce as the margin of difference was “very close”.

“Our Top Twenty-Five Safest Airlines are all standouts in the industry and are at the forefront of safety, innovation, and launching of new aircraft. The safety margins between these top twenty-five airlines are very small. Between Air New Zealand and Qantas, there is only 1.5 points. It’s incredibly close.”

Thomas said that the safety list considered a comprehensive range of factors, including incidents, recent fatal accidents, audits from aviation’s governing and industry bodies, profitability, industry-leading safety initiatives, expert pilot training assessment, and fleet age.
